Printing Peacefully at Crystal Tones

Crystal Tones (Salt Lake City, UT) is a distributor of quartz singing bowls as well as a variety of accessories and other products that allow their customers to pursue physical and mental peace.  The singing bowls are designed to create healing and balance through the power of sound, each creating a specific audible pitch when used.

The Problem:

Their extensive catalog features the ability to first select a singing bowl material, then select a singing bowl size and a pitch.  When each of the dozens of materials offers a handful of varieties and size options, each label needed to be crafted to display the properties of the item and do so in a creative and unique way.  In order to address this, Crystal tones created a unique system where each pitch corresponds to a specific color that would make up the background of the label.

Unfortunately, this resulted in hundreds of different pre-made, static PDF files.  This creates a huge time sink as a result of searching for the correct document and potentially selecting and printing the wrong one.  A small change to a few labels would take up lots of valuable time, and if a sudden change was required to all label formats, it could be a huge setback due to the fact that each PDF would need to be changed individually.

The Solution:

  • A data-driven dynamic label template created with NiceLabel Powerforms Suite. It utilizes NiceLabel’s out-of-the-box conditional layer printing to change the color and contents of the label based on a product selected from a CSV file.
  • In conjunction with the Epson ColorWorks TM-C3500 inkjet color label printer, we crafted a customized solution that allowed Crystal Tones to operate with a flexible label format that uses dynamic information to print.
  • The label that is applied to the singing bowl needs to be a full color, full-bleed, high quality printed label.  To ensure this, we designed and engineered a “label in label” die-cut that allows us to slightly overprint, guaranteeing a seamless full-bleed print every time.

If you’ve been reading our blog, you know we love solutions like this, and we couldn’t be happier with the way this one has been implemented.  This kind of customer satisfaction is the reason we do what we do.

Why choose NiceLabel?

NiceLabel PowerForms Suite labeling software offers numerous tools that allows for scaling to solutions of all different sizes.  In a relatively small-scale operation like this, the NiceLabel PowerForms Suite was more than sufficient to cover all of their needs.

Why Choose The TM-C3500?

The flexibility to choose the number of labels at print time was essential to their solution.  With a relatively low-volume label requirement, it is necessary for the printer to survive extensive downtime, but be ready to print at a moment’s notice.  The Epson TM-C3500 not only fills these roles, but the quality of the labels and the ability to print onto full-bleed die-cut labels were exactly what they needed.

What Do They Like Most?

Ben D’Amico, Operations Manager at Crystal tones, was exceptionally impressed by the sheer ease-of-use provided by the solution.  Furthermore, in case of any issue, the IPSi team is ready and able to provide remote support throughout the day.

Ben remarked that “Rick and the IPSi team have been very knowledgeable and fun to work with, they helped to save us a lot of time and figure out what we needed.  If they didn’t take the time to do that, we wouldn’t have such a great solution.”

We couldn’t be happier with the way this solution has been implemented, and this kind of customer satisfaction is the reason we do what we do.
